Carving Adze
A set of hand tools for roughing and carving. The adze has a 2 inch cross grain (lipped) edge, 5/16 inch thick hand forged carbon head saw steel blade on a 15 inch apple wood handle. The hook knife has a 6 inch double beveled full hooked blade hand forged from high carbon lumber mill saw blade on a 10 inch apple wood handle. Use both hands on the knife’s handle for control.

The steel is cut and forged from 6 foot and 5 foot diameter head saw blades. The saw blades we collected 20 years ago from local lumber mills. We forge spring steel adze blades recovering 5160 spring steel from older auto wrecks.
We differentially temper keeping the edge hard and strong and the length tempered tough. Hardening and then blending tempers is a differential temper. The adze cut through tough knots.
